Karlovy Vary Airport (LKKV/KLV), near the village of Olšová Vrata, is one of the regional airports in the Czech Republic. Our virtual airline offers flights from Karlovy Vary especially in the summer months, when charter flights to seaside destinations are operated from here.
This document summarizes essential information you should know for a realistic flight simulator experience.

The only paved runway at Karlovy Vary Airport, 11/29, with its dimensions of 2150 m in length and 30 m in width, is significantly short and narrow in comparison to other runways in the Czech Republic.
The runway length is an important factor for payload: a Boeing 737 on its maximum take-off weight is simply not able to take off from here. Local rules also require the crews of category C aircraft (e.g. A320 or B737) to use the entire length of the runway for take-off, so intersection departure is not possible here.
There are also limitations caused by the taxiway configuration. Category C aircraft (A320, B737) may only use taxiways B, D and E. Taxiway B is therefore the only usable connection between the runway and the apron, and runway backtrack procedures are used. Detailed taxi routes can be found below.
If landing on RWY 11, the options are to vacate via TWY B directly after landing (though unlikely, as the distance from the runway threshold is only approx. 700 m), OR to reach the end of the runway, use the turn pad at the threshold of RWY 29, backtrack the runway and vacate via TWY B.
If landing on RWY 29, the options are to vacate via TWY B directly after landing, OR to vacate via TWY D, taxi via TWY E to the threshold of RWY 11, backtrack the runway and vacate via TWY B.
Only runway 29 is equipped with an ILS system. Alternatively, NDB and RNP approaches are available for both runways.
Circling directions are as follows: right circling for RWY 11, left circling for RWY 29.
South of the extended centreline of Runway 11, 500 m before the runway threshold, is the Vítkův vrch terrain obstacle.
For RWY 11 departure, enter the runway via TWY B, backtrack the runway, vacate via TWY D, and taxi to the threshold of Runway 11 via TWY E.
For RWY 29 departure, enter the runway via TWY B, backtrack the runway, and turn around using the turning pad on the threshold of RWY 29.
At 500 m beyond the departure end of Runway 29 on the left side is the Vítkův vrch terrain obstacle.
