Latest changes (5 FEB 2025):
Added explicitly that using the "Travel To" feature, or skipping any part of flight in any other way, is not allowed.
- Microsoft Flight Simulator X (DVD or Steam edition)
- Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
- Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024
- Prepar3D
- X-Plane
- After registration, at least one valid flight within one month is recommended. Otherwise, the account might be deleted.
- In the case of inactivity, at least one valid flight per six months is recommended. Otherwise, the account might be deleted.
- smartCARS flight tracking software setup:
- Weight must be set to kilograms.
- Altitude must be set to feet.
- Landing distance must be set to meters.
- Refuelling is permitted only on the ground and the engines must not be running. It is recommended to load fuel prior to starting smartCARS tracking.
- The simulation rate must always be 1x (real-time). Accidental inadvertent switching of simulation rate, if corrected immediately, is tolerated.
- The flight must be tracked continuously and completely, from start to finish. It is not allowed to skip any part of the flight - for example, using the "Travel To" feature in MSFS, or other forms of teleport.
- Always use a valid route. Longer flights on a direct path (“as the crow flies”) from origin to destination may not be valid.
- Always use the aircraft registration you have booked, or at least the same aircraft type. If you fail to do so, the flight will not be valid (see exceptions). Aircraft or livery change (including tail number) during flight is not permitted.
- Aircraft type exceptions:
- Booking Airbus A320: you can use Airbus A320neo;
- Booking Airbus A330-300: you can use the Airbus A330-900;
- Booking Boeing 737-300/400/500: you can use any variant of the B737 Classic (-300, -400 or -500);
- Booking Boeing 737-800 (OK-TVW): you can use the BBJ2 (with additional fuel tanks);
- Booking Boeing 737 MAX 8: you can use Boeing 737-800;
- Booking Tupolev Tu-134: you can use Fokker F28;
- Booking Tupolev Tu-154: you can use Boeing 727-200;
- Booking Cessna 680/700: you can use any business jet with similar parameters.
- Additional exceptions for Legacy Routes flights can be found here.
- Flying for more than one virtual airline at a time is not permitted. Using independent flight trackers, such as Volanta or SimToolKitPro, is allowed without any restriction.
- The flight must not begin or end on a runway or on a runway’s holding point.
- Slew Mode and Replay usage is not permitted. If you need to do so, a valid reason must be stated in the comment section of the flight in the smartCARS tracking software.
- If the pilot’s absence in critical flight phases is evident from the flight log (e.g., significant diversion from the route, long holding in a holding pattern without a reason), the flight will not be valid.
- In case of a sim crash:
- A) set the aircraft to approximately the same position and altitude as it was before the simulator crash (use for example the Online Map in our crew centre for reference), set weight and fuel to the approximate correct level as possible, and reconnect the smartCARS software thereafter, OR
- B) cancel the booking on the website, rebook the flight and fly again.
- Diverts to airports of the pilot’s choice are allowed if the situation requires such action. If you need to do so, a valid reason must be stated in the comment section of the flight in the smartCARS tracking software.
- Any longer holding, i.e., more than 3 holding patterns, must be adequately justified in smartCARS remarks section (traffic, weather, technical reasons etc.)
- Flights to closed airports, military bases without civilian operations or airports with an unsuitable runway (length or surface) or other operational aspects (such as insufficient Fire Fighting Category) are not permitted.
- Please, do not close the simulator before completing and submitting the PIREP in the smartCARS tracking software - especially if you are using Microsoft Flight Simulator (FS2020). Otherwise, the flight destination might not be recorded correctly.
¶ 4. Flight evaluation and point scoring
Based on the flight report (PIREP) generated by smartCARS software, you may receive extra bonus points or penalties.
Each flight has a starting score of 80 points.
Landing rate (in feet per minute, fpm) is used to describe the smoothness of a landing; landing rate is automatically recorded by the smartCARS tracking software.
Landing rate |
Description |
-99 fpm and softer |
smooth landing, bonus +15 points |
-100 to -199 fpm |
perfect landing, bonus +30 points |
-200 to -299 fpm |
good landing, bonus +15 points |
-300 to -499 fpm |
normal landing, no bonus/penalty |
-500 to -749 fpm |
hard landing, penalty -30 points |
-750 to -999 fpm |
very hard landing, penalty -60 points |
-1000 fpm and harder |
crash, serious aircraft damage, flight rejected |
Item |
